2019 Series: 01/03/2015
My work focuses on a single day and the moments leading up to a pivotal event; the day I lost my father. The paintings reflect memories that play vividly in my mind, while the sculptures represent the form of that day and crucial moments. Combining these two elements creates an atmosphere of the past, present, and future.

I use acrylic paint and found objects to represent the correlation between subject and form. The painting builds a narrative. Each canvas stands alone, but together they create a story. Glass sculptures create the broken moment; the shards express broken community and the soul escaping the vessel.

The work in this exhibit triggers a spectrum of emotions as I revisit both good and painful memories. As the moments play back in my mind, each is encapsulated in a stroke of paint and a shard of glass. Just like a spectrum of light, the refraction of those moments is captured for the viewer. I want to provide viewers with a non-mediated emotional experience, one that is captured through the use of traditional media and a shared human connection.
